Middle East and Africa power industry contracts in Q2 2019: Oman leads activity

Looking at contracts by country, Oman led the activity in Q2 2019 with eight contracts and a share of 10.1%, up 2.8% over the previous quarter and up 100% when compared with the last four-quarter average, followed by Iran (Islamic Republic of Iran) with seven contracts and a share of 8.9% and Kenya with six contracts and a share of 7.6% during the quarter.

Looking at the last four-quarter average, Iran (Islamic Republic of Iran) held the top spot with 40 contracts, followed by the United Arab Emirates with 11 and Egypt with eight contracts.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in Q2 2019

Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, Solar accounted for the largest proportion with 33 contracts and a 54.1% share, followed by Thermal with 17 contracts and a 27.9% share and Wind with four contracts and a 6.6% share.

Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment in Middle East and Africa power contracts activity during Q2 2019, with 35 contracts, followed by T&D Project (17) and Generation Equipment (16).

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 31 contracts and a 39.2% share
  2. Consulting & Similar Services: 13 contracts and a 16.5% share
