Middle East and Africa power industry contracts in Q4 2019: Egypt leads activity
Looking at contracts by country, Egypt led the activity in Q4 2019 with 11 contracts and a share of 13.4%, up 1.7% over the previous quarter and up 83% when compared with the last four-quarter average, followed by Iran (Islamic Republic of Iran) with ten contracts and a share of 12.2% and Saudi Arabia with seven contracts and a share of 8.5% during the quarter.
Looking at the last four-quarter average, the United Arab Emirates held the top spot with nine contracts, followed by Iran (Islamic Republic of Iran) with seven and Egypt with six contracts.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in Q4 2019
Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 27 contracts and a 47.4% share, followed by thermal with 14 contracts and a 24.6% share and hydro with seven contracts and a 12.3% share.
Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment in Middle East and Africa power contracts activity during Q4 2019, with 38 contracts, followed by T&D Project (24) and Generation Equipment (13).
The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:
- Project Implementation: 38 contracts and a 46.3% share
- Supply & Erection: 14 contracts and a 17.1% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: 13 contracts and a 15.9% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: eight contracts and a 9.8% share
- Power Purchase Agreement: eight contracts and a 9.8% share
- Electricity Supply: one contract and a 1.2% share.

The top issuers of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Middle East and Africa were:
- Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (United Arab Emirates) and Egyptian Electricity Transmission (Egypt): 900MW from one contract
- Thermal Power Plant Holding (Iran): 451MW from one contract
- Lekela Power (South Africa): 249.6MW capacity from one contract.
