Middle East and Africa power industry tenders in April 2020: Bahrain leads activity

Looking at tenders by country, Bahrain led the activity in April 2020 with four tenders and a share of 14.3%, up 10.8% over the previous month and up 33% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Guinea with three tenders and a share of 10.7% and Morocco with two tenders and a share of 7.1% during the month.

Looking at the last 12-month average, South Africa held the top spot with 38 tenders, followed by Oman with 21 and Iraq with seven tenders.

Solar is top technology area for tenders in April 2020

Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with three tenders and a 27.3% share, followed by thermal with three tenders and a 27.3% share and hydro with two tenders and an 18.2% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment in Middle East and Africa as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Project was the most popular segment in April 2020, with ten tenders, followed by Power Plant (7) and T&D Equipment (5).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: nine tenders and a 32.1% share
  2. Supply & Erection: eight tenders and a 28.6% share
  3. Consulting & Similar Services: seven tenders and a 25% share
  4. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: four tenders and a 14.3% share.

Power tenders in April 2020: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Middle East and Africa were:

  1. Renewable Energy Project Development Office (Saudi Arabia): 1,000MW from one tender
  2. Societe Beninoise d’Electricite et d’Eau (Benin): 120MW from one tender
  3. TM Geothermal Operations: 50MW capacity from one tender.
