Middle East and Africa power industry tenders in December 2019: Oman leads activity

Looking at tenders by country, Oman led the activity in December 2019 with 20 tenders and a share of 22.7%, up 5.3% over the previous month and down 5% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Iraq with 15 tenders and a share of 17% and South Africa with 13 tenders and a share of 14.8% during the month.

Looking at the last 12-month average, South Africa held the top spot with 48 tenders, followed by Oman with 21 and Saudi Arabia with six tenders.

Thermal is top technology area for tenders in December 2019

Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, thermal accounted for the largest proportion with eight tenders and a 53.3% share, followed by solar with six tenders and a 40% share and wind with one tender and a 6.7% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment in Middle East and Africa as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Project was the most popular segment in December 2019, with 47 tenders, followed by T&D Equipment (25) and Smart Grid (11).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 32 tenders and a 36.4% share
  2. Supply & Erection: 31 tenders and a 35.2% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 24 tenders and a 27.3% share
