Middle East and Africa power industry tenders in December 2020: South Africa leads activity

Looking at tenders by country, South Africa led the activity in December 2020 with 15 tenders and a share of 24.6%, down 7.2% over the previous month and down 12% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Kenya with nine tenders and a share of 14.8% and Jordan with seven tenders and a share of 11.5% during the month.

Looking at the last 12-month average, South Africa held the top spot with 17 tenders, followed by Iraq with four and Oman with four tenders.

Solar is top technology area for tenders in December 2020

Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 37 tenders and an 82.2% share, followed by thermal with six tenders and a 13.3% share and wind with one tender and a 2.2% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment in Middle East and Africa as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment in December 2020, with 30 tenders, followed by T&D Equipment (12) and Generation Equipment (11).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 31 tenders and a 50.8% share
  2. Supply & Erection: 24 tenders and a 39.3% share
  3. Consulting & Similar Services: three tenders and a 4.9% share
