Middle East and Africa power industry tenders in February 2020: Iraq leads activity

Looking at tenders by country, Iraq led the activity in February 2020 with six tenders and a share of 16.2%, a flat growth over the previous month and flat growth when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by South Africa with six tenders and a share of 16.2% and Oman with four tenders and a share of 10.8% during the month.

Looking at the last 12-month average, South Africa held the top spot with 44 tenders, followed by Oman with 21 and Iraq with six tenders.

Solar is top technology area for tenders in February 2020

Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with nine tenders and a 52.9% share, followed by thermal with six tenders and a 35.3% share and hydro with two tenders and an 11.8% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment in Middle East and Africa as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Project was the most popular segment in February 2020, with 12 tenders, followed by T&D Equipment (9) and Power Plant (9).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 13 tenders and a 35.1% share
  2. Project Implementation: 11 tenders and a 29.7% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: eight tenders and a 21.6% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: five tenders and a 13.5% share.

Power tenders in February 2020: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Middle East and Africa were:

  1. Public Establishment for Electricity Generation and Transmission (Syria): 4MW from one tender
  2. Germany Trade & Invest (Germany): 0.01MW from one tender.
