Middle East and Africa power industry tenders in February 2021: South Africa leads activity
Looking at tenders by country, South Africa led the activity in February 2021 with 98 tenders and a share of 52.1%, up 24.4% over the previous month and up 390% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Kenya with 14 tenders and a share of 7.4% and Oman with 13 tenders and a share of 6.9% during the month.
Looking at the last 12-month average, South Africa held the top spot with 20 tenders, followed by Kenya with five and Namibia with three tenders.

Solar is top technology area for tenders in February 2021
Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 36 tenders and a 62.1% share, followed by thermal with 18 tenders and a 31% share and wind with two tenders and a 3.4% share.
Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment in Middle East and Africa as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Equipment was the most popular segment in February 2021, with 106 tenders, followed by Power Plant (30) and T&D Project (27).
The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:
- Supply & Erection: 115 tenders and a 61.2% share
- Project Implementation: 42 tenders and a 22.3% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 21 tenders and an 11.2% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: nine tenders and a 4.8% share
- Power Purchase Agreement: one tender and a 0.5% share.
Power tenders in February 2021: Top issuers by capacity
The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Middle East and Africa were:
- Government of South Africa: 2,600MW from one tender
- Germany Trade And Invest (Germany): 30MW from one tender
- Water Authority Jordan (Jordan): 1MW capacity from one tender.
