Middle East and Africa power industry tenders in July 2020: South Africa leads activity
Looking at tenders by country, South Africa led the activity in July 2020 with 22 tenders and a share of 36.7%, up 1.4% over the previous month and down 21% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Namibia with eight tenders and a share of 13.3% and Iraq with five tenders and a share of 8.3% during the month.
Looking at the last 12-month average, South Africa held the top spot with 28 tenders, followed by Oman with 14 and Iraq with six tenders.

Thermal is top technology area for tenders in July 2020
Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, thermal accounted for the largest proportion with 15 tenders and a 57.7% share, followed by solar with eight tenders and a 30.8% share and wind with two tenders and a 7.7% share.
Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment in Middle East and Africa as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Project was the most popular segment in July 2020, with 21 tenders, followed by Generation Equipment (14) and T&D Equipment (14).
The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:
- Supply & Erection: 25 tenders and a 41.7% share
- Project Implementation: 21 tenders and a 35% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: eight tenders and a 13.3% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: six tenders and a 10% share.
Power tenders in July 2020: Top issuers by capacity
The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Middle East and Africa were:
- Oman Power and Water Procurement (Oman): 1,000MW from one tender
- Eskom Holdings SOC (South Africa): 80MW from one tender
- Electricity Development (Cameroon): 72MW capacity from one tender.
