Middle East and Africa power industry tenders in June 2021: South Africa leads activity
Looking at tenders by country, South Africa led the activity in June 2021 with 103 tenders and a share of 50.7%, down 1.1% over the previous month and up 94% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Kenya with 17 tenders and a share of 8.4% and Tanzania with nine tenders and a share of 4.4% during the month.
Looking at the last 12-month average, South Africa held the top spot with 53 tenders, followed by Kenya with nine and Oman with five tenders.

Thermal is top technology area for tenders in June 2021
Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, thermal accounted for the largest proportion with 30 tenders and a 50% share, followed by solar with 28 tenders and a 46.7% share and biopower with one tender and a 1.7% share.
Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment in Middle East and Africa as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Equipment was the most popular segment in June 2021, with 112 tenders, followed by Generation Equipment (36) and T&D Project (26).
The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:
- Supply & Erection: 137 tenders and a 67.5% share
- Project Implementation: 36 tenders and a 17.7% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 22 tenders and a 10.8% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: eight tenders and a 3.9% share.
Power tenders in June 2021: Top issuers by capacity
The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Middle East and Africa were:
- Ministry of Petroleum and Energy, Ivory Coast (Ivory Coast): 60MW from one tender
- NamPower (Namibia): 50MW from one tender
- City of Windhoek: 25MW capacity from one tender.
