Middle East and Africa power industry tenders in March 2020: South Africa leads activity

Looking at tenders by country, South Africa led the activity in March 2020 with ten tenders and a share of 25%, up 8.7% over the previous month and down 76% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Oman with eight tenders and a share of 20% and Iraq with five tenders and a share of 12.5% during the month.

Looking at the last 12-month average, South Africa held the top spot with 41 tenders, followed by Oman with 21 and Iraq with six tenders.

Thermal is top technology area for tenders in March 2020

Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, thermal accounted for the largest proportion with six tenders and a 54.5% share, followed by solar with four tenders and a 36.4% share and wind with one tender and a 9.1% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment in Middle East and Africa as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Equipment was the most popular segment in March 2020, with 16 tenders, followed by T&D Project (12) and Power Plant (6).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 19 tenders and a 47.5% share
  2. Project Implementation: nine tenders and a 22.5% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: six tenders and a 15% share
