Middle East and Africa power industry tenders in Q1 2020: South Africa leads activity

Looking at tenders by country, South Africa led the activity in Q1 2020 with 21 tenders and a share of 15.8%, down 5.8% over the previous quarter and down 85% when compared with the last four-quarter average, followed by Oman with 13 tenders and a share of 9.8% and Iraq with 12 tenders and a share of 9% during the quarter.

Looking at the last four-quarter average, South Africa held the top spot with 143 tenders, followed by Oman with 68 and Iraq with 19 tenders.

Solar is top technology area for tenders in Q1 2020

Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 32 tenders and a 57.1% share, followed by thermal with 16 tenders and a 28.6% share and hydro with seven tenders and a 12.5% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment in Middle East and Africa power tenders activity during Q1 2020, with 40 tenders, followed by T&D Equipment (37) and T&D Project (36).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:
