Middle East and Africa power industry tenders in Q2 2019: South Africa leads activity
Looking at tenders by country, South Africa led the activity in Q2 2019 with 145 tenders and a share of 32.9%, down 1.2% over the previous quarter and up 16% when compared with the last four-quarter average.
In second place was Oman with 84 tenders and a share of 19% and in third place was Kenya with 24 tenders and a share of 5.4% during the quarter.
Looking at the last four-quarter average, South Africa held the top spot with 125 tenders, followed by Oman with 21 and Saudi Arabia with 20 tenders.

Thermal is top technology area for tenders in Q2 2019
Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, Thermal accounted for the largest proportion with 72 tenders and a 61.5% share, followed by Solar with 24 tenders and a 20.5% share and Hydro with 12 tenders and a 10.3% share.
Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Equipment was the most popular segment in Middle East and Africa power tenders activity during Q2 2019, with 176 tenders, followed by T&D Project (146) and Generation Equipment (70).
The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:
- Supply & Erection with 225 tenders and a 51% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others with 110 tenders and a 24.9% share
- Project Implementation with 86 tenders and a 19.5% share.

The top issuers of tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Middle East and Africa were:
- Kuwait Authority for Partnership Projects (Kuwait) with 2,000MW from one tender
