Middle East and Africa power industry tenders in Q2 2020: South Africa leads activity
Looking at tenders by country, South Africa led the activity in Q2 2020 with 13 tenders and a share of 14.9%, up 0.2% over the previous quarter and down 89% when compared with the last four-quarter average, followed by Bahrain with seven tenders and a share of 8% and Iraq with seven tenders and a share of 8% during the quarter.
Looking at the last four-quarter average, South Africa held the top spot with 117 tenders, followed by Oman with 64 and Iraq with 21 tenders.

Solar is top technology area for tenders in Q2 2020
Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 21 tenders and a 45.7% share, followed by thermal with 14 tenders and a 30.4% share and hydro with six tenders and a 13% share.
Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment in Middle East and Africa power tenders activity during Q2 2020, with 30 tenders, followed by T&D Project (23) and T&D Equipment (19).
The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:
- Project Implementation: 30 tenders and a 34.5% share
- Supply & Erection: 27 tenders and a 31% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 16 tenders and an 18.4% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: 13 tenders and a 14.9% share
- Power Purchase Agreement: one tender and a 1.1% share.

The top issuers of tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Middle East and Africa were:
