Middle East and Africa power industry tenders in Q2 2021: South Africa leads activity
Looking at tenders by country, South Africa led the activity in Q2 2021 with 303 tenders and a share of 52.5%, up 6.9% over the previous quarter and up 173% when compared with the last four-quarter average, followed by Kenya with 45 tenders and a share of 7.8% and Tanzania with 22 tenders and a share of 3.8% during the quarter.
Looking at the last four-quarter average, South Africa held the top spot with 111 tenders, followed by Kenya with 21 and Oman with 12 tenders.

Solar is top technology area for tenders in Q2 2021
Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 84 tenders and a 49.4% share, followed by thermal with 71 tenders and a 41.8% share and hydro with nine tenders and a 5.3% share.
Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Equipment was the most popular segment in Middle East and Africa power tenders activity during Q2 2021, with 309 tenders, followed by T&D Project (90) and Generation Equipment (82).
The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:
- Supply & Erection: 369 tenders and a 64% share
- Project Implementation: 122 tenders and a 21.1% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 61 tenders and a 10.6% share
