Middle East and Africa power industry tenders in September 2019: Oman leads activity
Looking at tenders by country, Oman led the activity in September 2019 with 34 tenders and a share of 27.9%, up 20.6% over the previous month and up 113% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by South Africa with 32 tenders and a share of 26.2% and Nigeria with seven tenders and a share of 5.7% during the month.
Looking at the last 12-month average, South Africa held the top spot with 50 tenders, followed by Oman with 16 and Saudi Arabia with seven tenders.

Thermal is top technology area for tenders in September 2019
Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, thermal accounted for the largest proportion with 17 tenders and a 60.7% share, followed by solar with nine tenders and a 32.1% share and hydro with one tender and a 3.6% share.
Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment in Middle East and Africa as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Project was the most popular segment in September 2019, with 57 tenders, followed by T&D Equipment (36) and Generation Equipment (17).
The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:
- Supply & Erection: 48 tenders and a 39.3% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 44 tenders and a 36.1% share
- Project Implementation: 29 tenders and a 23.8% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: one tender and a 0.8% share.
Power tenders in September 2019: Top companies by capacity
The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Middle East and Africa were:
- Infrastructure Development Bank of Zimbabwe: 286.7MW from one tender
- Public Establishment for Electricity Generation and Transmission (Syria): 171MW from four tenders
- NamPower (Namibia): 20MW capacity from one tender.
