Middle East and Africa power industry tenders in September 2020: South Africa leads activity

Looking at tenders by country, South Africa led the activity in September 2020 with 35 tenders and a share of 47.9%, up 2.7% over the previous month and up 106% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Namibia with five tenders and a share of 6.8% and Kenya with five tenders and a share of 6.8% during the month.

Looking at the last 12-month average, South Africa held the top spot with 17 tenders, followed by Oman with 11 and Iraq with six tenders.

Solar is top technology area for tenders in September 2020

Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 14 tenders and a 45.2% share, followed by thermal with 14 tenders and a 45.2% share and wind with one tender and a 3.2% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment in Middle East and Africa as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Equipment was the most popular segment in September 2020, with 30 tenders, followed by Power Plant (14) and T&D Project (13).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 42 tenders and a 57.5% share
  2. Project Implementation: 21 tenders and a 28.8% share
  3. Consulting & Similar Services: five tenders and a 6.8% share
