Middle East and Africa power plant tenders activity up 112% in January 2021

There were 36 power plant tenders announced in the Middle East and Africa region in January 2021, marking a rise of 112% over the last 12-month average of 17, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

Power Plant stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the Middle East and Africa region in January 2021 with 36 tenders and a 29.5% share, followed by T&D Equipment with 32 tenders and a 26.2% share and Generation Equipment with 24 tenders and a 19.7% share during the month.

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 30 tenders and an 83.3% share
  2. Consulting & Similar Services: five tenders and a 13.9% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: one tender and a 2.8% share.

Solar is top technology for Middle East and Africa power plant tenders in January 2021

Looking at power plant tenders by the type of technology in the Middle East and Africa region, solar accounted for 30 tenders with an 85.7% share, followed by hydro with three tenders and an 8.6% share and geothermal with one tender and a 2.9% share.

Middle East and Africa power plant tenders in January 2021: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of power plant tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Middle East and Africa were:

  1. Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (Morocco): 400MW from one tender
  2. Tanzania Electric Supply (Tanzania): 99MW from two tenders
  3. Ministere de l’Energie des Mines et des Energies Renouvelables (Tunisia): 70MW capacity from one tender.
