Middle East and Africa power plant tenders activity up 19% in Q2 2021

There were 76 power plant tenders announced in the Middle East and Africa region in Q2 2021, marking a rise of 19% over the last four-quarter average of 64, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

T&D Equipment stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the Middle East and Africa region in Q2 2021 with 309 tenders and a 52.7% share, followed by T&D Project with 90 tenders and a 15.4% share and Generation Equipment with 82 tenders and a 14% share during the quarter.

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 64 tenders and an 84.2% share
  2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: six tenders and a 7.9% share
  3. Consulting & Similar Services: six tenders and a 7.9% share.

Solar is top technology for Middle East and Africa power plant tenders in Q2 2021

Looking at power plant tenders by the type of technology in the Middle East and Africa region, solar accounted for 64 tenders with an 84.2% share, followed by thermal with four tenders and a 5.3% share and hydro with four tenders and a 5.3% share.

Middle East and Africa power plant tenders in Q2 2021: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of power plant tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Middle East and Africa were:

  1. Kuwait Authority for Partnership Projects (Kuwait): 3,000MW from one tender
  2. Ministry of Electricity and Water (Kuwait): 2,400MW from one tender
  3. Ministry of Petroleum and Energy, Ivory Coast (Ivory Coast): 60MW capacity from one tender.
