Middle East and Africa Solar technology tenders activity rises 147% in January 2021

Middle East and Africa solar technology tenders in January 2021 saw 37 tenders announced, marking a rise of 147% over the last 12-month average of 15, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

The proportion of solar technology tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation with 28 tenders and a 75.7% share
  2. Supply & Erection: seven tenders and an 18.9% share
  3. Consulting & Similar Services: one tender and a 2.7% share
  4. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: one tender and a 2.7% share.

Yemen tops Middle East and Africa solar power tenders activity

Yemen was the top country in the Middle East and Africa region for solar technology tenders recorded in January 2021 with seven tenders and an 18.9% share, followed by Somalia with five tenders and a 13.5% share and Uganda with three tenders and an 8.1% share.

Middle East and Africa solar technology tenders in January 2021: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved in Middle East and Africa were:

  1. Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (Morocco): 400MW from one tender
  2. Ministere de l’Energie des Mines et des Energies Renouvelables (Tunisia): 70MW from one tender
  3. Islamic Development Bank (Saudi Arabia): 9.5MW capacity from one tender.
