Middle East and Africa Solar technology tenders activity rises 14% in Q1 2020

Middle East and Africa solar technology tenders in Q1 2020 saw 32 tenders announced, marking a rise of 14% over the last four-quarter average of 28, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

The proportion of solar technology tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation with 22 tenders and a 68.8% share
  2. Consulting & Similar Services: eight tenders and a 25% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: one tender and a 3.1% share
  4. Supply & Erection: one tender and a 3.1% share.

Cape Verde tops Middle East and Africa solar power tenders activity

Cape Verde was the top country in the Middle East and Africa region for solar technology tenders recorded in Q1 2020 with three tenders and a 9.4% share, followed by Kenya with three tenders and a 9.4% share and Somalia with three tenders and a 9.4% share.

Middle East and Africa solar technology tenders in Q1 2020: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Middle East and Africa were:

  1. Emirates Water and Electricity (United Arab Emirates): 1,500MW from one tender
  2. Renewable Energy Project Development Office (Saudi Arabia): 1,200MW from one tender
  3. Ethiopia’s Ministry of Finance: 798MW capacity from one tender.
