Middle East and Africa Solar technology tenders activity rises 31% in Q2 2021

Middle East and Africa solar technology tenders in Q2 2021 saw 84 tenders announced, marking a rise of 31% over the last four-quarter average of 64, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

The proportion of solar technology tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation with 62 tenders and a 73.8% share
  2. Supply & Erection: 17 tenders and a 20.2% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: two tenders and a 2.4% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: two tenders and a 2.4% share
  5. Power Purchase Agreement: one tender and a 1.2% share.

Kenya tops Middle East and Africa solar power tenders activity

Kenya was the top country in the Middle East and Africa region for solar technology tenders recorded in Q2 2021 with 13 tenders and a 15.5% share, followed by Jordan with ten tenders and an 11.9% share and South Africa with eight tenders and a 9.5% share.

Middle East and Africa solar technology tenders in Q2 2021: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Middle East and Africa were:

  1. Kuwait Authority for Partnership Projects (Kuwait): 3,000MW from one tender
  2. Sasol (South Africa) and Air Liquide (France): 600MW from one tender
  3. Ministry of Petroleum and Energy, Ivory Coast (Ivory Coast): 60MW capacity from one tender.
