Middle East and Africa Solar technology tenders activity rises 197% in Q4 2020

Middle East and Africa solar technology tenders in Q4 2020 saw 89 tenders announced, marking a rise of 197% over the last four-quarter average of 30, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

The proportion of solar technology tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation with 64 tenders and a 71.9% share
  2. Supply & Erection: 19 tenders and a 21.3% share
  3. Consulting & Similar Services: five tenders and a 5.6% share
  4. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: one tender and a 1.1% share.

Kenya tops Middle East and Africa solar power tenders activity

Kenya was the top country in the Middle East and Africa region for solar technology tenders recorded in Q4 2020 with 15 tenders and a 16.9% share, followed by Yemen with nine tenders and a 10.1% share and Palestinian Territory with eight tenders and a 9% share.

Middle East and Africa solar technology tenders in Q4 2020: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Middle East and Africa were:

  1. Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy: 40MW from one tender
  2. Germany Trade And Invest (Germany): 39.8MW from two tenders
  3. Marula Platinum Mine: 10MW capacity from one tender.
