Nam Ngiep 2 Hydropower Project is an 180MW hydro power project. It is located on Nam Ngiep river/basin in Xiangkhouang, Laos. The project is currently active. It has been developed in single phase. The project construction commenced in 2011 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in 2015.

Description

The project was developed by China International Water & Electric. China International Water & Electric and Electricite du Laos are currently owning the project having ownership stake of 90% and 10% respectively.

The hydro reservoir capacity is 151.8 million cubic meter. The project generated 720 GWh of electricity. The project cost is $345m.

Development Status

The project construction commenced in 2011 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in 2015.

Power Purchase Agreement

The power generated from the project is sold to Electricite du Laos under a power purchase agreement.

Contractors Involved

Toshiba Hydro Power (Hanzhou) was selected as the turbine supplier for the hydro power project. The company provided 3 units of francis turbines, each with 60MW nameplate capacity.

Toshiba Hydro Power (Hanzhou) supplied 3 electric generators for the project. The generator capacity is 68.8 MVA.
