North America electricity procurement contracts activity up 2% in Q3 2021

There were 84 electricity procurement contracts announced in the North America region in Q3 2021, marking a rise of 2% over the last four-quarter average of 82, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Electricity Procurement stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the North America region in Q3 2021 with 84 contracts and a 39.1% share, followed by Generation Equipment with 45 contracts and a 20.9% share and Power Plant with 40 contracts and an 18.6% share during the quarter.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Power Purchase Agreement: 76 contracts and a 90.5% share
  2. Electricity Supply: seven contracts and an 8.3% share
  3. Project Implementation: one contract and a 1.2% share.

Solar is top technology for North America electricity procurement contracts in Q3 2021

Looking at electricity procurement contracts by the type of technology in the North America region, solar accounted for 59 contracts with a 70.2% share, followed by wind with 22 contracts and a 26.2% share and geothermal with one contract and a 1.2% share.

The top issuers of electricity procurement contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. Salt River Project (United States): 900MW from four contracts
  2. Central Coast Community Energy (United States): 488.3MW from six contracts
  3. Amazon.com (United States): 474MW capacity from one contract.

  1. TotalEnergies (France): 546MW from two contracts
  2. Clenera (United States): 520MW from two contracts
