North America electricity procurement contracts activity up 7% in July 2021

There were 29 electricity procurement contracts announced in the North America region in July 2021, marking a rise of 7% over the last 12-month average of 27, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Electricity Procurement stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the North America region in July 2021 with 29 contracts and a 41.4% share, followed by Power Plant with 15 contracts and a 21.4% share and Generation Equipment with 14 contracts and a 20% share during the month.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Power Purchase Agreement: 28 contracts and a 96.6% share
  2. Electricity Supply: one contract and a 3.4% share.

Solar is top technology for North America electricity procurement contracts in July 2021

Looking at electricity procurement contracts by the type of technology in the North America region, solar accounted for 21 contracts with a 67.7% share, followed by wind with nine contracts and a 29% share and nuclear with one contract and a 3.2% share.

North America electricity procurement contracts in July 2021: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of electricity procurement contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. Central Coast Community Energy: 488.3MW from six contracts
  2. Amazon.com (United States): 474MW from one contract
  3. Microsoft (United States): 434MW capacity from two contracts.

North America electricity procurement contracts in July 2021: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. TotalEnergies (France): 546MW from two contracts
  2. Apex Clean Energy Holdings (United States): 345MW from one contract
  3. 174 Power Global (United States): 272MW capacity from three contracts.
