North America electricity procurement contracts activity up 46% in June 2021

There were 38 electricity procurement contracts announced in the North America region in June 2021, marking a rise of 46% over the last 12-month average of 26, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Electricity Procurement stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the North America region in June 2021 with 38 contracts and a 45.8% share, followed by Generation Equipment with 23 contracts and a 27.7% share and Power Plant with 12 contracts and a 14.5% share during the month.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Power Purchase Agreement: 37 contracts and a 97.4% share
  2. Electricity Supply: one contract and a 2.6% share.

Solar is top technology for North America electricity procurement contracts in June 2021

Looking at electricity procurement contracts by the type of technology in the North America region, solar accounted for 33 contracts with an 86.8% share, followed by wind with four contracts and a 10.5% share and hydro with one contract and a 2.6% share.

North America electricity procurement contracts in June 2021: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of electricity procurement contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. Amazon.com (United States): 400MW from one contract
  2. Puget Sound Energy (United States): 350MW from one contract
  3. Central Electric Power Coop (United States): 308.14MW capacity from four contracts.

North America electricity procurement contracts in June 2021: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners KS (Denmark) and Greengate Power (Canada): 400MW from one contract
  2. NextEra Energy Resources (United States): 350MW from one contract
  3. Centaurus Renewable Energy (United States): 300MW capacity from one contract.
