North America electricity procurement contracts activity up 10% in Q2 2021

There were 89 electricity procurement contracts announced in the North America region in Q2 2021, marking a rise of 10% over the last four-quarter average of 81, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Electricity Procurement stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the North America region in Q2 2021 with 89 contracts and a 44.3% share, followed by Power Plant with 41 contracts and a 20.4% share and Generation Equipment with 40 contracts and a 19.9% share during the quarter.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Power Purchase Agreement: 81 contracts and a 91% share
  2. Electricity Supply: eight contracts and a 9% share.

Solar is top technology for North America electricity procurement contracts in Q2 2021

Looking at electricity procurement contracts by the type of technology in the North America region, solar accounted for 67 contracts with a 73.6% share, followed by wind with 15 contracts and a 16.5% share and hydro with five contracts and a 5.5% share.

North America electricity procurement contracts in Q2 2021: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of electricity procurement contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. AEP Energy (United States): 480MW from one contract
  2. Amazon.com (United States): 400MW from one contract
  3. Puget Sound Energy (United States): 390MW capacity from two contracts.

North America electricity procurement contracts in Q2 2021: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. Global Energy Generation (United States): 480MW from one contract
  2. NextEra Energy Resources (United States): 408MW from two contracts
  3. Greengate Power (Canada) and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners KS (Denmark): 400MW capacity from one contract.
