North America electricity procurement contracts activity up 26% in September 2019

There were 24 electricity procurement contracts announced in the North America region in September 2019, marking a rise of 26% over the last 12-month average of 19, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Electricity Procurement stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the North America region in September 2019 with 24 contracts and a 40.7% share, followed by Generation Equipment with 19 contracts and a 32.2% share and Power Plant with nine contracts and a 15.3% share during the month.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

1. Power Purchase Agreement: 22 contracts and a 91.7% share
2. Electricity Supply: two contracts and an 8.3% share.

Solar is top technology for North America electricity procurement contracts in September 2019

Looking at electricity procurement contracts by the type of technology in the North America region, solar accounted for 18 contracts with a 64.3% share, followed by wind with ten contracts and a 35.7% share.

The top issuers of electricity procurement contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

1. AT&T (United States): 960MW from two contracts
2. Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (United States): 375MW from one contract
3. American Honda Motor (United States): 320MW capacity from two contracts.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

1. Invenergy (United States): 800MW from one contract
2. 8minute Solar Energy (United States): 400MW from two contracts
3. Duke Energy Renewables (United States): 333.3MW capacity from two contracts.
