North America energy storage tenders activity down 30% in Q2 2021

There were 30 energy storage tenders announced in the North America region in Q2 2021, marking a drop of 30% over the last four-quarter average of 43, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

T&D Equipment stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the North America region in Q2 2021 with 300 tenders and a 43% share, followed by Generation Equipment with 228 tenders and a 32.7% share and Power Plant with 49 tenders and a 7% share during the quarter.

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 14 tenders and a 46.7% share
  2. Project Implementation: nine tenders and a 30% share
  3. Power Purchase Agreement: six tenders and a 20% share
  4. Others: one tender and a 3.3% share.

Solar is top technology for North America energy storage tenders in Q2 2021

Looking at energy storage tenders by the type of technology in the North America region, solar accounted for 12 tenders with a 50% share, followed by wind with five tenders and a 20.8% share and biopower with two tenders and an 8.3% share.

North America energy storage tenders in Q2 2021: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of energy storage tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. Dominion Energy (United States): 1,100MW from one tender
  2. PNM (United States): 700MW from two tenders
  3. Southwestern Electric Power Company (SWEPCO) (United States): 300MW capacity from one tender.
