North America energy storage tenders activity up 5% in Q4 2020

There were 46 energy storage tenders announced in the North America region in Q4 2020, marking a rise of 5% over the last four-quarter average of 44, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

T&D Equipment stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the North America region in Q4 2020 with 282 tenders and a 43.9% share, followed by Generation Equipment with 222 tenders and a 34.6% share and Energy Storage with 46 tenders and a 7.2% share during the quarter.

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 34 tenders and a 73.9% share
  2. Project Implementation: seven tenders and a 15.2% share
  3. Power Purchase Agreement: three tenders and a 6.5% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: two tenders and a 4.3% share.

Solar is top technology for North America energy storage tenders in Q4 2020

Looking at energy storage tenders by the type of technology in the North America region, solar accounted for eight tenders with a 61.5% share, followed by wind with two tenders and a 15.4% share and biopower with one tender and a 7.7% share.

North America energy storage tenders in Q4 2020: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of energy storage tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. CPS Energy (United States): 1,450MW from one tender
  2. Marin Clean Energy, Peninsula Clean Energy (United States), Redwood Coast Energy Authority (United States), San Jose Clean Energy (United States), Silicon Valley Clean Energy (United States), Sonoma Clean Power (United States), Central Coast Community Energy and CleanPowerSF (United States): 500MW from one tender
  3. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (United States): 12.3MW capacity from one tender.
