North America energy storage tenders activity down 41% in Q1 2022

There were 26 energy storage tenders announced in the North America region in Q1 2022, marking a drop of 41% over the last four-quarter average of 44, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

T&D Equipment stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the North America region in Q1 2022 with 83 tenders and a 45.6% share, followed by Generation Equipment with 51 tenders and a 28% share and Energy Storage with 26 tenders and a 14.3% share during the quarter.

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 20 tenders and a 76.9% share
  2. Project Implementation: four tenders and a 15.4% share
  3. Power Purchase Agreement: two tenders and a 7.7% share.

Solar is top technology for North America energy storage tenders in Q1 2022

Looking at energy storage tenders by the type of technology in the North America region, solar accounted for seven tenders with a 70% share, followed by wind with two tenders and a 20% share and thermal with one tender and a 10% share.

North America energy storage tenders in Q1 2022: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of energy storage tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. Indiana Michigan Power (United States): 1,300MW from one tender
  2. Appalachian Power (United States): 1,100MW from one tender
  3. El Paso Electric (United States): 10MW capacity from one tender.
