North America generation equipment contracts activity up 10% in Q3 2019

There were 44 generation equipment contracts announced in the North America region in Q3 2019, marking a rise of 10% over the last 12-month average of 40, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Electricity Procurement stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the North America region in Q3 2019 with 52 contracts and a 34% share, followed by Generation Equipment with 44 contracts and a 28.8% share and Power Plant with 33 contracts and a 21.6% share during the quarter.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 34 contracts and a 77.3% share
  2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: eight contracts and an 18.2% share
  3. Project Implementation: two contracts and a 4.5% share.

Wind is top technology for North America generation equipment contracts in Q3 2019

Looking at generation equipment contracts by the type of technology in the North America region, wind accounted for 19 contracts with a 43.2% share, followed by thermal with 11 contracts and a 25% share and solar with nine contracts and a 20.5% share.

  1. Siemens (Germany): 608MW from one contract
  2. ProEnergy Services (United States): 280MW from one contract.
