North America generation equipment contracts activity up 40% in Q3 2020

There were 63 generation equipment contracts announced in the North America region in Q3 2020, marking a rise of 40% over the last 12-month average of 45, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

Electricity Procurement stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the North America region in Q3 2020 with 69 contracts and a 28.3% share, followed by Generation Equipment with 63 contracts and a 25.8% share and Power Plant with 43 contracts and a 17.6% share during the quarter.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 55 contracts and an 87.3% share
  2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: seven contracts and an 11.1% share
  3. Project Implementation: one contract and a 1.6% share.

Thermal is top technology for North America generation equipment contracts in Q3 2020

Looking at generation equipment contracts by the type of technology in the North America region, thermal accounted for 22 contracts with a 34.9% share, followed by wind with 20 contracts and a 31.7% share and solar with 16 contracts and a 25.4% share.
