North America power industry contracts in February 2021: The US leads activity

Looking at contracts by country, the US led the activity in February 2021 with 31 contracts and a share of 86.1%, down 10.6% over the previous month and down 56% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Canada with three contracts and a share of 8.3% and Mexico with two contracts and a share of 5.6% during the month.

Looking at the last 12-month average, the US held the top spot with 70 contracts, followed by Canada with seven and Mexico with one contract.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in February 2021

Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 13 contracts and a 39.4% share, followed by wind with ten contracts and a 30.3% share and thermal with five contracts and a 15.2% share.

Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment in North America as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment in February 2021, with 14 contracts, followed by Electricity Procurement (9) and Generation Equipment (8).

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: nine contracts and a 25% share
  2. Power Purchase Agreement: eight contracts and a 22.2% share
  3. Supply & Erection: eight contracts and a 22.2% share
  4. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: six contracts and a 16.7% share
  5. Consulting & Similar Services: four contracts and an 11.1% share
  6. Electricity Supply: one contract and a 2.8% share.

The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:
