North America power industry contracts in January 2020: The US leads activity

Looking at contracts by country, the US led the activity in January 2020 with 47 contracts and a share of 88.7%, down 0.9% over the previous month and flat growth when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Canada with four contracts and a share of 7.5% and Mexico with two contracts and a share of 3.8% during the month.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in January 2020

Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 25 contracts and a 53.2% share, followed by wind with ten contracts and a 21.3% share and thermal with four contracts and an 8.5% share.

Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment in North America as tracked by GlobalData, Electricity Procurement was the most popular segment in January 2020, with 24 contracts, followed by Power Plant (13) and Generation Equipment (8).

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Power Purchase Agreement: 19 contracts and a 35.8% share
  2. Project Implementation: 12 contracts and a 22.6% share
  3. Supply & Erection: 12 contracts and a 22.6% share
  4. Electricity Supply: five contracts and a 9.4% share
  5. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: three contracts and a 5.7% share
  6. Consulting & Similar Services: two contracts and a 3.8% share.

The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. Harrison Power (United States): 1,085MW from one contract
  2. Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association (United States): 815MW from six contracts
  3. Evergy (United States): 283.1MW capacity from two contracts.

Power contracts in January 2020: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. Gemma Power Systems (United States): 1,085MW from one contract
  2. China Gezhouba Group International Engineering (China): 1,000MW from one contract
  3. Juwi (United States): 415MW capacity from four contracts.
