North America power industry contracts in July 2020: The US leads activity

Looking at contracts by country, the US led the activity in July 2020 with 48 contracts and a share of 85.7%, down 2.1% over the previous month and down 21% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Canada with six contracts and a share of 10.7% and Mexico with one contract and a share of 1.8% during the month.

Looking at the last 12-month average, the US held the top spot with 61 contracts, followed by Canada with five and Mexico with three contracts.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in July 2020

Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 26 contracts and a 65% share, followed by thermal with seven contracts and a 17.5% share and wind with five contracts and a 12.5% share.

Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment in North America as tracked by GlobalData, Electricity Procurement was the most popular segment in July 2020, with 17 contracts, followed by Power Plant (14) and T&D Equipment (12).

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 23 contracts and a 41.1% share
  2. Power Purchase Agreement: 15 contracts and a 26.8% share
  3. Project Implementation: 12 contracts and a 21.4% share
  4. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: three contracts and a 5.4% share
  5. Electricity Supply: two contracts and a 3.6% share
  6. Consulting & Similar Services: one contract and a 1.8% share.

The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. Microsoft (United States): 500MW from one contract
  2. AEP Energy (United States): 400MW from one contract
  3. Northern Indiana Public Service Co L (United States): 300MW capacity from two contracts.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:
