Power industry contracts in North America for June 2021 up 11%

North America power industry contracts activity in June 2021 saw 80 contracts announced, marking a rise of 11% over the last 12-month average of 72, according to GlobalData’s power database.

North America power industry contracts in June 2021: The US leads activity

Looking at contracts by country, the US led the activity in June 2021 with 68 contracts and a share of 85%, down 2.8% over the previous month and up 8% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Canada with eight contracts and a share of 10% and Mexico with two contracts and a share of 2.5% during the month.

Looking at the last 12-month average, the US held the top spot with 63 contracts, followed by Canada with six and Mexico with one contract.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in June 2021

Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 51 contracts and a 68% share, followed by thermal with 11 contracts and a 14.7% share and wind with 11 contracts and a 14.7% share.

Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment in North America as tracked by GlobalData, Electricity Procurement was the most popular segment in June 2021, with 38 contracts, followed by Generation Equipment (23) and Power Plant (12).

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Power Purchase Agreement: 37 contracts and a 46.3% share
  2. Supply & Erection: 20 contracts and a 25% share
  3. Project Implementation: 11 contracts and a 13.8% share
  4. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: eight contracts and a 10% share
  5. Consulting & Similar Services: two contracts and a 2.5% share
  6. Electricity Supply: one contract and a 1.3% share
  7. Others: one contract and a 1.3% share.

Power contracts in June 2021: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. SB Energy (Japan): 649MW from one contract
  2. Greengate Power (Canada) and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners KS (Denmark): 465MW from one contract
  3. Amazon.com (United States): 400MW capacity from one contract.

Power contracts in June 2021: Top winners by capacity

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. Rosendin Electric (United States): 649MW from one contract
  2. PCL Construction Group (Canada): 465MW from one contract
  3. Greengate Power (Canada) and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners KS (Denmark): 400MW capacity from one contract.
