North America power industry contracts in March 2020: The US leads activity

Looking at contracts by country, the US led the activity in March 2020 with 68 contracts and a share of 90.7%, up 7.6% over the previous month and up 31% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Mexico with four contracts and a share of 5.3% and Canada with three contracts and a share of 4% during the month.

Looking at the last 12-month average, the US held the top spot with 52 contracts, followed by Canada with four and Mexico with three contracts.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in March 2020

Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 35 contracts and a 61.4% share, followed by thermal with eight contracts and a 14% share and wind with eight contracts and a 14% share.

Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment in North America as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment in March 2020, with 34 contracts, followed by Generation Equipment (15) and T&D Equipment (14).

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 33 contracts and a 44% share
  2. Supply & Erection: 30 contracts and a 40% share
