North America power industry contracts in March 2021: The US leads activity

Looking at contracts by country, the US led the activity in March 2021 with 49 contracts and a share of 96.1%, up 8.3% over the previous month and down 28% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Mexico with two contracts and a share of 3.9%.

Looking at the last 12-month average, the US held the top spot with 68 contracts, followed by Canada with six and Mexico with one contract.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in March 2021

Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 22 contracts and a 47.8% share, followed by wind with 20 contracts and a 43.5% share and thermal with two contracts and a 4.3% share.

Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment in North America as tracked by GlobalData, Electricity Procurement was the most popular segment in March 2021, with 21 contracts, followed by Generation Equipment (13) and Power Plant (10).

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 19 contracts and a 37.3% share
  2. Power Purchase Agreement: 18 contracts and a 35.3% share
  3. Project Implementation: eight contracts and a 15.7% share
