North America power industry contracts in May 2021: The US leads activity
Looking at contracts by country, the US led the activity in May 2021 with 37 contracts and a share of 90.2%, up 9.5% over the previous month and down 44% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Canada with three contracts and a share of 7.3% and Mexico with one contract and a share of 2.4% during the month.
Looking at the last 12-month average, the US held the top spot with 66 contracts, followed by Canada with six and Mexico with two contracts.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in May 2021
Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 22 contracts and a 61.1% share, followed by wind with seven contracts and a 19.4% share and hydro with three contracts and an 8.3% share.
Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment in North America as tracked by GlobalData, Electricity Procurement was the most popular segment in May 2021, with 19 contracts, followed by Power Plant (11) and Smart Grid (5).
The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:
- Power Purchase Agreement: 16 contracts and a 39% share
- Project Implementation: eight contracts and a 19.5% share
- Supply & Erection: eight contracts and a 19.5% share
