North America power industry contracts in Q1 2020: The US leads activity
Looking at contracts by country, the US led the activity in Q1 2020 with 189 contracts and a share of 87.9%, up 0.4% over the previous quarter and up 23% when compared with the last four-quarter average, followed by Canada with 18 contracts and a share of 8.4% and Mexico with eight contracts and a share of 3.7% during the quarter.
Looking at the last four-quarter average, the US held the top spot with 154 contracts, followed by Canada with 11 and Mexico with nine contracts.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in Q1 2020
Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 86 contracts and a 58.1% share, followed by wind with 26 contracts and a 17.6% share and thermal with 16 contracts and a 10.8% share.
Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment in North America power contracts activity during Q1 2020, with 62 contracts, followed by Electricity Procurement (46) and T&D Equipment (43).
The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:
- Supply & Erection: 97 contracts and a 45.1% share
- Project Implementation: 55 contracts and a 25.6% share
- Power Purchase Agreement: 40 contracts and an 18.6% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: nine contracts and a 4.2% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: eight contracts and a 3.7% share
- Electricity Supply: six contracts and a 2.8% share.
