North America power industry contracts in Q1 2021: The US leads activity
Looking at contracts by country, the US led the activity in Q1 2021 with 176 contracts and a share of 94.6%, up 9.3% over the previous quarter and down 14% when compared with the last four-quarter average, followed by Canada with five contracts and a share of 2.7% and Mexico with four contracts and a share of 2.2% during the quarter.
Looking at the last four-quarter average, the US held the top spot with 205 contracts, followed by Canada with 23 and Mexico with six contracts.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in Q1 2021
Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 93 contracts and a 53.1% share, followed by wind with 55 contracts and a 31.4% share and thermal with 14 contracts and an 8% share.
Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, Power Plant was the most popular segment in North America power contracts activity during Q1 2021, with 66 contracts, followed by Electricity Procurement (59) and Generation Equipment (42).
The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:
- Project Implementation: 57 contracts and a 30.6% share
- Power Purchase Agreement: 53 contracts and a 28.5% share
- Supply & Erection: 53 contracts and a 28.5% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: nine contracts and a 4.8% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: eight contracts and a 4.3% share
- Electricity Supply: six contracts and a 3.2% share.
