North America power industry contracts in Q2 2021: The US leads activity
Looking at contracts by country, the US led the activity in Q2 2021 with 157 contracts and a share of 84.4%, down 8.9% over the previous quarter and down 23% when compared with the last four-quarter average, followed by Canada with 20 contracts and a share of 10.8% and Mexico with five contracts and a share of 2.7% during the quarter.
Looking at the last four-quarter average, the US held the top spot with 204 contracts, followed by Canada with 20 and Mexico with five contracts.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in Q2 2021
Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 110 contracts and a 63.6% share, followed by wind with 32 contracts and an 18.5% share and thermal with 17 contracts and a 9.8% share.
Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, Electricity Procurement was the most popular segment in North America power contracts activity during Q2 2021, with 89 contracts, followed by Power Plant (41) and Generation Equipment (40).
The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:
- Power Purchase Agreement: 81 contracts and a 43.5% share
- Supply & Erection: 41 contracts and a 22% share
- Project Implementation: 35 contracts and an 18.8% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 14 contracts and a 7.5% share
- Electricity Supply: eight contracts and a 4.3% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: six contracts and a 3.2% share
- Others: one contract and a 0.5% share.

- AEP Energy (United States): 480MW from one contract
