North America power industry contracts in Q3 2020: The US leads activity
Looking at contracts by country, the US led the activity in Q3 2020 with 184 contracts and a share of 84.8%, down 3.3% over the previous quarter and down 3% when compared with the last four-quarter average, followed by Canada with 24 contracts and a share of 11.1% and Mexico with seven contracts and a share of 3.2% during the quarter.
Looking at the last four-quarter average, the US held the top spot with 190 contracts, followed by Canada with 18 and Mexico with nine contracts.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in Q3 2020
Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 97 contracts and a 54.5% share, followed by wind with 43 contracts and a 24.2% share and thermal with 23 contracts and a 12.9% share.
Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, Electricity Procurement was the most popular segment in North America power contracts activity during Q3 2020, with 69 contracts, followed by Generation Equipment (63) and Power Plant (43).
The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:
- Supply & Erection: 89 contracts and a 41% share
- Power Purchase Agreement: 60 contracts and a 27.6% share
- Project Implementation: 42 contracts and a 19.4% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 13 contracts and a 6% share
- Electricity Supply: nine contracts and a 4.1% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: four contracts and a 1.8% share.
