North America power industry tenders in December 2019: The US leads activity

Looking at tenders by country, the US led the activity in December 2019 with 118 tenders and a share of 83.7%, up 3.5% over the previous month and up 19% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Canada with 22 tenders and a share of 15.6% and Mexico with one tender and a share of 0.7% during the month.

Looking at the last 12-month average, the US held the top spot with 99 tenders, followed by Canada with 35.

Thermal is top technology area for tenders in December 2019

Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, thermal accounted for the largest proportion with 69 tenders and a 94.5% share, followed by solar with four tenders and a 5.5% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment in North America as tracked by GlobalData, Generation Equipment was the most popular segment in December 2019, with 67 tenders, followed by T&D Equipment (49) and Energy Storage (15).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 94 tenders and a 66.7% share
  2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 37 tenders and a 26.2% share
  3. Project Implementation: six tenders and a 4.3% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: two tenders and a 1.4% share
  5. Power Purchase Agreement: two tenders and a 1.4% share.

Power tenders in December 2019: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. Indianapolis Power & Light (United States): 200MW from one tender
  2. Comision Federal de Electricidad (Mexico): 42.26MW from one tender
  3. Maui Electric (United States): 9.5MW capacity from one tender.
