North America power industry tenders in January 2021: The US leads activity

Looking at tenders by country, the US led the activity in January 2021 with 161 tenders and a share of 79.3%, down 6.3% over the previous month and down 10% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Canada with 39 tenders and a share of 19.2% and Puerto Rico with three tenders and a share of 1.5% during the month.

Looking at the last 12-month average, the US held the top spot with 178 tenders, followed by Canada with 34.

Thermal is top technology area for tenders in January 2021

Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, thermal accounted for the largest proportion with 84 tenders and a 71.8% share, followed by solar with 18 tenders and a 15.4% share and wind with seven tenders and a 6% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment in North America as tracked by GlobalData, Generation Equipment was the most popular segment in January 2021, with 84 tenders, followed by T&D Equipment (78) and Energy Storage (15).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 135 tenders and a 66.5% share
  2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 48 tenders and a 23.6% share
  3. Project Implementation: nine tenders and a 4.4% share
  4. Others: five tenders and a 2.5% share
  5. Power Purchase Agreement: five tenders and a 2.5% share
  6. Consulting & Similar Services: one tender and a 0.5% share.

Power tenders in January 2021: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. Missoula County: 0.37MW from one tender
  2. School District 46 Sunshine Coast: 0.1MW from one tender.
