North America power industry tenders in July 2020: The US leads activity

Looking at tenders by country, the US led the activity in July 2020 with 195 tenders and a share of 84.1%, down 0.3% over the previous month and up 64% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Canada with 37 tenders and a share of 15.9%.

Looking at the last 12-month average, the US held the top spot with 119 tenders, followed by Canada with 28.

Thermal is top technology area for tenders in July 2020

Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, thermal accounted for the largest proportion with 93 tenders and a 78.2% share, followed by solar with 17 tenders and a 14.3% share and wind with five tenders and a 4.2% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment in North America as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Equipment was the most popular segment in July 2020, with 103 tenders, followed by Generation Equipment (94) and Energy Storage (17).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 154 tenders and a 66.4% share
  2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 54 tenders and a 23.3% share
  3. Project Implementation: 17 tenders and a 7.3% share
  4. Power Purchase Agreement: six tenders and a 2.6% share
  5. Consulting & Similar Services: one tender and a 0.4% share.

Power tenders in July 2020: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. PacifiCorp (United States): 4,300MW from one tender
  2. New York State Energy Research & Development Authority (United States): 4,000MW from one tender
  3. New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (United States): 2,400MW capacity from one tender.
