North America power industry tenders in June 2020: The US leads activity

Looking at tenders by country, the US led the activity in June 2020 with 189 tenders and a share of 83.3%, up 1.8% over the previous month and up 69% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Canada with 38 tenders and a share of 16.7%.

Looking at the last 12-month average, the US held the top spot with 112 tenders, followed by Canada with 29.

Thermal is top technology area for tenders in June 2020

Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, thermal accounted for the largest proportion with 80 tenders and a 79.2% share, followed by solar with 16 tenders and a 15.8% share and wind with two tenders and a 2% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment in North America as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Equipment was the most popular segment in June 2020, with 118 tenders, followed by Generation Equipment (81) and Energy Storage (14).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 179 tenders and a 78.9% share
  2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 33 tenders and a 14.5% share
  3. Project Implementation: 13 tenders and a 5.7% share
  4. Power Purchase Agreement: two tenders and a 0.9% share.

Power tenders in June 2020: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. The AES (United States): 1,000MW from one tender
  2. Santee Cooper (United States) and Central Electric Power Coop (United States): 500MW from one tender
  3. Avista (United States): 120MW capacity from one tender.
