North America power industry tenders in May 2020: The US leads activity

Looking at tenders by country, the US led the activity in May 2020 with 171 tenders and a share of 82.2%, down 3.9% over the previous month and up 51% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Canada with 37 tenders and a share of 17.8%.

Looking at the last 12-month average, the US held the top spot with 113 tenders, followed by Canada with 31.

Thermal is top technology area for tenders in May 2020

Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, thermal accounted for the largest proportion with 71 tenders and a 70.3% share, followed by solar with 16 tenders and a 15.8% share and hydro with nine tenders and an 8.9% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment in North America as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Equipment was the most popular segment in May 2020, with 99 tenders, followed by Generation Equipment (75) and Power Plant (14).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 146 tenders and a 70.2% share
  2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 43 tenders and a 20.7% share
  3. Project Implementation: 12 tenders and a 5.8% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: four tenders and a 1.9% share
  5. Power Purchase Agreement: three tenders and a 1.4% share.

Power tenders in May 2020: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. Dominion Energy (United States): 1,250MW from one tender
  2. New Brunswick Power (Canada): 1.8MW from one tender
  3. Oxford County (Canada): 1.27MW capacity from one tender.
