North America power industry tenders in May 2021: The US leads activity

Looking at tenders by country, the US led the activity in May 2021 with 137 tenders and a share of 77%, down 3.2% over the previous month and down 28% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Canada with 41 tenders and a share of 23%.

Looking at the last 12-month average, the US held the top spot with 190 tenders, followed by Canada with 39.

Thermal is top technology area for tenders in May 2021

Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, thermal accounted for the largest proportion with 60 tenders and a 72.3% share, followed by solar with 18 tenders and a 21.7% share and wind with four tenders and a 4.8% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment in North America as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Equipment was the most popular segment in May 2021, with 80 tenders, followed by Generation Equipment (60) and Power Plant (14).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 119 tenders and a 66.9% share
  2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 33 tenders and an 18.5% share
  3. Project Implementation: 19 tenders and a 10.7% share
  4. Power Purchase Agreement: six tenders and a 3.4% share

The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. Fitchburg Gas and Electric Light (United States), Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources (United States), Massachusetts Electric (United States), Nantucket Electric (United States) and NSTAR Electric (United States): 1,600MW from one tender
  2. Appalachian Power (United States): 100MW from one tender
